Learn more about Ayurveda

Ayurveda is one of the three ancient Vedic sciences (Yoga, Tantra and Ayurveda) that originated in India and Sri Lanka over 5000 years ago. It is one of the oldest recorded medical systems in the world and it is a true gift for humanity. It means ‘knowledge of life’ and it is a practical guide that shows us how to heal our bodies and achieve balance through diet, routine, herbal remedies and lifestyle in general.

Ayurveda looks at the individual as a whole, all the experiences, emotions and traumas a person has gone through. We are not a single disease or a collection of symptoms. It aims to heal the body by finding and removing the cause of the imbalance rather than pacifying the symptoms for a short period of time. It is advanced personalised medicine and it helps us find balance and true sustainable health for our own body type.

Let me give you an example of a common imbalance that thousands of women experience on a regular basis, Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs). In Ayurveda the first course of action is to identify the cause of the imbalance, which in this case is creating an inflammatory and hot environment in the pelvic area of the body, an ideal environment for bacteria to spread. Common causes can be: high stress, excess heating foods like wine, red meat, tomatoes, feelings of anger, etc. The course of treatment could involve:

  • Eliminating the cause of the imbalance through diet and lifestyle changes.

  • Reducing the body’s inflammation and heat so the bacteria no longer finds it a habitable place.

  • Pacifying the symptoms with herbal remedies.

  • Supporting the body’s digestion and elimination channels so toxins can be expelled.

The Science behind Ayurveda

A recent study concluded biological age could be decreased by 3.23 years within 8 weeks of targeted diet filled with fresh and wholefoods. This means a diet filled with real food can decrease your biological age by over 3 years in just 8 weeks. Click here to see the study.

The largest human health study in history

Ayurveda has been successfully used for at least 5000 continuous years in human history, it is still used today nationwide in Sri Lanka as the main health system. It has helped millions of people cure a wide range of diseases from IBS, Eczema and Depression to Diabetes, Cancer and Arthritis. It is documented in detail in the great trio of ayurvedic texts: Charaka Samhita, Susruta Samhita and Astanga Hrdayam, with a comprehensive study of human diseases, its causative factors and treatment.

Gut Health

Ayurveda taught the world 5000 years ago that all illnesses start with an unbalanced digestive fire or gut. Today modern science is finally catching up to the importance of gut health in all diseases. Click here to see latest studies
